The first superhero movies, starring Flash Gordon, came out in the 1930’s. From 1943-1948, Batman, Captain American, and Superman entered the scene and remain popular to this day.
In recent years we have added among others the Greek God Thor, Iron Man who flies with a technologically advanced suit, and of course, the friendly neighborhood Spiderman.
Heroes, by their very nature are admired for their superior qualities and achievements. They provide inspiration to our rather ordinary existence.
Heroes make us believe that we can be better than we are. Perhaps we too can do extraordinary feats, change the course of the world, perhaps even save a life.
Gifford has decided to honor employees through their Daisy, Bee, and Hive Awards. All recipients are nominated by other staff members.
With the winning of these awards we, collectively, get a glimpse of everyday superheroes that live and work among us.
These are ordinary folks that don’t wear capes. They wear patience and care, hope and fortitude, faithfulness and a smile.
Surely Gifford is not the only place these heroes can be found.
Look around. They are serving our communities through businesses and volunteerism. They live in our nursing homes and places of assisted living. They teach and coach, bag groceries and provide childcare. They can be found anywhere and everywhere. We just need to look..
And the next time we spy someone who is serving and loving and giving, unmask them. Let them know that their life is inspiring.
Then go forth, with or without a cape, and live!
