Certified nurse-midwives are health care providers (specially certified in nursing and midwifery) who provide health care to women throughout their lives. They believe women deserve time and individualized attention during pregnancy to be healthy, feel empowered to birth, and to take care of their baby.
Pregnancy and birth is unique, and every family has its own needs. Midwives help each family make decisions by taking the time to talk about all aspects of pregnancy and birth. They work with doctors who specialize in illness and complications during pregnancy as well as with other health care providers, including social workers, nutritionists, doulas, childbirth educators, and physical therapists.
At Gifford, midwifery care is provided by a team of certified nurse-midwives offering birthing care 24 hours a day and routine gynecological care by appointment, including:
- Adolescent reproductive health services focusing on healthy behaviors
- Contraceptive counseling and management
- Well-woman care and annual exams throughout life
- Diagnosis and care of common gynecological problems
- Preconception counseling and care

The Travel Clinic works with patients and their Gifford health care provider to determine what vaccinations or medications are needed prior to traveling, the cost of those immunizations, and to set up an appointment to receive the vaccines. Get started by calling the Travel Clinic at (802) 728-2626.
Travel Clinic users must have a Gifford primary care provider and be up-to-date on their annual physical. Travelers should also check with their health insurer prior to receiving vaccines, as most are not covered by insurance. Visit the CDC to learn more, including what immunizations are needed for various destinations.
