RANDOLPH, Vt. — Gifford Health Care is pleased to welcome Logan Teresa Porter, MD, FAAFP, to its primary care team. Dr. Porter is a board-certified family physician with more than 35 years of experience in family medicine, community health care, emergency medicine, tribal health care, hospital medicine, and urgent care.
Throughout her career, Dr. Porter has cared for patients in a wide variety of settings, including 17 years practicing in Alaska, where she worked with Native health services and provided care in remote communities.
“My original goal was to be a flying bush doctor,” said Dr. Porter. “I really fell in love with rural medicine and the sense of connection you build with people and communities.”
Dr. Porter earned her medical degree from Duke University Medical School and completed her residency in family medicine at Middlesex Memorial Hospital in Connecticut. She is board-certified by the American Board of Family Practice and has also served in teaching roles with Florida State University Medical School and the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Most recently, Dr. Porter practiced in primary care settings in Barton and St. Johnsbury, Vermont. Prior to that, she spent many years in Alaska and Florida working across emergency medicine, hospital medicine, urgent care, and primary care.
While she has enjoyed many areas of medicine throughout her career, Dr. Porter says primary care and continuity of care remain closest to her heart.
“One of the things I missed in emergency medicine and hospital medicine was continuity,” she said. “It means so much to have patients come back, tell you how they’ve been doing, and build those relationships over time.”
Dr. Porter is known for her thoughtful and thorough approach to patient care, taking time to understand not only a patient’s medical concerns, but also the bigger picture of their life and health.
“I spend time getting to know patients as people,” said Dr. Porter. “It paints such a picture of what’s happening in their lives and helps me care for the whole person.”
Outside of work, Dr. Porter enjoys gardening, hiking, biking, and spending time outdoors with her family in northern Vermont.
Dr. Porter is accepting patients at Gifford Health Care’s primary care clinic located in Randolph, Vermont.
