Family nurse practitioner, Eileen Murphy, MSN, APRN, has returned to Gifford Health Care and is now seeing patients at the Chelsea Health Center and the Rochester Health Center.
Murphy has worked as a nurse practitioner for over 20 years, providing broad-spectrum primary care for patients of all ages in rural Vermont.
She originally joined Gifford in 1998, offering primary care for all ages at the Bethel Health Center until 2008. She then spent seven years at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., and more recently worked at the VA Medical Center in White River Junction.
Her career began in high school when she worked with emergency department nurses as a volunteer and then as a nursing assistant. That role continued through her undergraduate education where she worked on an organ transplant unit. After college, she continued to volunteer time in a trauma center while working in the computer industry. She then completed her graduate degree in nursing, and worked in adult and pediatric critical care and outpatient pediatrics.
She received a bachelor’s in international relations from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn., a master’s in nursing with a cardiopulmonary specialization from MGH Institute of Health Professionals in Boston, Mass., and her post master’s family nurse practitioner certification from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
“I enjoy working with patients of all ages,” says Murphy, whose previous patients have noted how she focuses on and listens to their needs and concerns during their appointments. “My goal is to collaborate with patients and families to address their health care needs and together, work toward their goals.”
In addition to her position at Gifford, Murphy volunteers in a number Orange County communities, as well as on statewide professional organizations.
In her free time, Murphy enjoys running the roads, hiking, and walking on trails and backroads year-round.
