From Our Leadership
“Who We Are” highlights our people: our colleagues who dedicate their professional lives to Gifford and our patients, our generous Auxiliary and other volunteers who have given decades of service, and our partners in outreach who share our belief that we are healthier together and work with us to achieve that vision for all who live in our communities. Here we share their stories, from why they choose Gifford to how their leadership makes a meaningful difference.
We are proud of our team. In 2019, providers and staff across our organization earned recognition and awards at the local, state and national levels. Among other wins, their work to address antibiotic resistance, a continuing public health threat across the United States and globally, resulted in a greater than 50 percent reduction in the use of the drugs with patients at our medical center. Their commitment to our residents at Menig made the nursing home one of five of the state’s 36 Medicaid-participating facilities to receive a 2019 Nursing Home Quality Award from the Agency of Human Services. And their leadership in vaccination made Gifford Pediatrics one of four practices in the state recognized by the Vermont Department of Health for achieving high immunization rates.
Our team likewise has led in helping us make financial strides. In fiscal year 2019, we saw improvement across all three of our organizations, Gifford Health Care, Gifford Medical Center, and Gifford Retirement Community. We still had an operating loss of $1.9 million in FY19, a positive improvement of about $5 million from FY18, and saw a 2 percent increase in net patient revenue over FY18, including improvements in Surgical Services and Primary Care. We continue to work together to get in the black, and to ensure Gifford is here to provide access to affordable, high-quality health care well into the future.
Thank you to the many wonderful people who make up Team Gifford.
In appreciation,
Dan Bennett, President and CEO
