Work by Randolph artist William Ruthenberg is on display in the Gifford Gallery through July 26, 2017
The exhibit of 38 paintings includes scenes with historic buildings and barns in an around Bethel, and landscapes from travels around the world: a coastal village in Greece, a Venice canal, or a monastery in Bhutan, India.
Ruthenberg, who works in acrylic, watercolor, sepia, pencil, and pen and ink, trained as a draftsman and auto body designer as a young man. He began creating pen and ink drawings in the early 1990’s and from there branched out into watercolor painting. In an artist’s note he writes that working with watercolor gives him more freedom to show depth, and he finds it a more expressive medium.
He has participated in the Bethel Historical Society’s spring and fall art shows at Bethel’s Town Hall since their inception in 2012, and continues to display a variety of works at the Bethel Public Library and David Sambor’s ‘Bethel Village Sandwich Shop and Café.
This exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will be displayed through July 26, 2017. The gallery is located just inside the hospital’s main entrance at 44 S. Main St. (Route 12) in Randolph. Call Gifford at (802) 728-7000 for more information.
