“A Couple in a Market in Peru” by Bonnie Willett
Work by Randolph artist Bonnie Palmer Willett is on display in the Gifford Gallery through August 30, 2017.
Willett works from photographs of people that she has met in her travels—a Buddhist monk in Bhutan, a mother and baby from Peru, a Nepalese Grandfather and his grandson—to create expressive and colorful portraits. The 12 pieces displayed are charcoal drawings finished with an interpretive watercolor wash.
Willett’s passion for making art was sparked while living with art students when she was in nursing school. After graduating, she enrolled in art classes and began to explore painting styles and sculpture while working as a nurse. She continued to create art while living with her family in Taiwan, Korea, and Denmark, and upon returning to the states pursued a Masters in Art Therapy. Today she splits her time between painting and sculpture.
She began exhibiting her work in 1983 with a one-woman watercolor exhibition in Seoul, Korea, and has since exhibited throughout the world. Most recently her work has been shown at the 2017 Northern Vermont Arts Association Exhibition at the S.P.A.C.E Gallery in Burlington, VT.
This exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will be displayed through August 30, 2017. The gallery is located just inside the hospital’s main entrance at 44 S. Main St. (Route 12) in Randolph. Call Gifford at (802) 728-7000 for more information.
