“Cows in Autumn Light”
Work by Barnard artist Emily Burkholder is on display in the Gifford Gallery through June 21, 2017.
The 18 black watercolor and oil-on-canvas pieces in the exhibit highlight the beauty of the natural world with scenes that include natural landscapes, animals, and many views of old barns. Burkholder says she looks for inspiration in photographs she’s taken, or by venturing out in the beautiful Vermont countryside.
“As an artist I work hard to develop paintings that capture the beauty that surrounds me each day and season,” Burkholder writes in an artist’s statement. “With each finished piece I try to give life and personality to every expression of light, shadow, structure, and animal.”
Burkholder studied art and music at Castleton University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Minor in Music. She teaches art and music both privately and through Artistree Community Arts Center in Pomfret, VT. She began her career as an oil and watercolor artist three and a half years ago, and joined the Daily Artists, became a member of The VT Watercolor Society, and has participated in several art shows in Vermont and New Hampshire.
This exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will be displayed through June 21, 2017. The gallery is located just inside the hospital’s main entrance at 44 S, Main St. (Route 12) in Randolph. Call Gifford at (802) 728-7000 for more information.
