RANDOLPH, Vt., Aug. 5, 2020—This summer Gifford welcomes J. Andrew Dreslin, MD, to its Urology team.
Dreslin, who sees patients at Gifford’s Berlin and Randolph locations, brings to Gifford 15 years of experience as a urologist, including most recently at Central Vermont Medical Center (CVMC) in Berlin. He also brings a personalized approach to patient care that is focused on education.
“I like to get to know my patients, about their home life, and who they are,” he said. “I also use a lot of educational items, to explain anatomy and thoroughly answer any questions a patient may have. I find providing education helps with patient outcomes. Additionally, because I find urology so interesting, I think that my enthusiasm for the things we talk about really comes through.”
Dreslin, a general urologist, was drawn to Gifford by his desire to provide community-focused medicine at a small hospital.
“Having two urologists in this community is the right number, and Gifford feels like a good fit—welcoming, with friendly people,” he said, referring to joining Gifford colleague Richard Graham, MD, who sees patients in Randolph. The Gifford team also includes urogynecologist Anne Viselli, MD.
In addition to providing care at CVMC, Dreslin served as an assistant professor at Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont. He previously provided care with Urology Associates, Inc., at South County Hospital in Wakefield, R.I., and Newport Hospital in Newport, R.I. He completed his residency in urology and an internship in general surgery at Harvard University School of Medicine in Boston, Mass. He earned a doctor of medicine degree from
Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Ill., and a bachelor’s degree from Albright College in Reading, Penn. He is certified by the American Board of Urology. His experience also includes several years in research as a laboratory scientist, including at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Ill.; Harvard University School of Public Health in Boston, Mass.; and Pfizer Central Research in Groton, Conn.
When not at work, Dreslin enjoys playing tennis with his wife and three daughters, mountain-biking, skiing, and traveling.
