Landscape paintings by Worcester Vermont artist Sylvia Walker are currently on display in the Gifford Medical Center art gallery. The exhibit features 21 acrylic, pastel, and pen and ink pieces depicting nature scenes from around Vermont and as far away as Oregon and Michigan. The exhibit will run through August 19, 2015.
Walker, who describes herself as “largely self-taught,” grew up on a hill farm in Sharon, Vermont during the 1930’s and 40’s. She was drawing and painting at an early age— her first paint set came from a Sears & Roebuck catalog— and returned to art in mid-life after raising a family. Walker studied with several local artists and took classes at the Community College of Vermont and Goddard College. She currently teaches art at the Montpelier Senior Center and in Worcester, Vermont.
Walker’s work has been shown at the Tunbridge Fair, the Paletteers art shows in Barre, the Kellogg Hubbard Library, La Brioche, Montpelier Senior Center, and more recently in the Hartness Library at VTC.
