Gorgeous nature inspired linoleum and wood block prints by Janet Cathey are on display through March 20th in the Gifford Gallery at Gifford Medical Center.
“My inspiration comes from patterns and shapes in the natural world, from tree shadows to reflections in a lake’s surface.” Cathey shares, “I aim to simplify images in nature in order to emphasize beautiful patterns and gorgeous color.”
Cathey finds inspiration in the children she teaches at Killington Elementary School, Stockbridge Central School and the Barnard Academy. She experiments with gradations and layers of colors which create both one-of-a kind realistic and abstract images.
Cathey grew up in Lake Forest, Illinois where she spent her childhood on the Lake Michigan shore and forest surrounding her home. She knew at a young age that she wanted to live close to nature and following college in Minnesota she made Vermont her home. She enjoys exploring the Connecticut River, Green River Reservoir, and the shores of Lake Champlain.
