Work by Randolph photographer Wink Willett will be on display through October 12, 2016, in the Gifford Medical Center Art Gallery.
Willett is a travel photographer who has traveled throughout the world and lived in three continents. With his camera as his passport, he heads toward third world countries to learn about and engage in the many diverse cultures and socio-political influences which impact humanity at all levels.
He believes this is best done by interacting with people in their daily lives and their own environment. Seeing life in its most elementary level gives him a better understanding of the cultural nuances, core values, and character of the country.
Willett has traveled to more than 45 countries but one of his favorites is Cuba, where he journeyed in 2011. The 24 photographs in this exhibit capture the streets and street life of Havana: the openness and colorful nature of the people; the quality and number of vintage cars; the colonial architecture with balconies hanging clothes out to dry; people of all ages playing games such as baseball, soccer, or marbles; workers repairing cars and bicycles; or neighbors chatting on their doorsteps after a long day’s work.
