RANDOLPH, Vt.- The acrylic works of long-time Randolph Center artist, Paul Calter are on display at the Gifford Art Gallery. Calter’s work, including various sculptures, is present throughout the community.
For decades, Calter created watercolor sketches of the outdoors. Hundreds of these sketches were saved in boxes with some dating back to the early 1950s. Years ago when Calter was housebound after surgery he selected one of those square-shaped sketches and turned it into a rectangle acyclic painting, more than doubling its original size.
“I selected one of the old sketches that I particularly liked and used it as a basis for a studio painting,” Calter said. “I was pleased with the process, so I made more.”
Visitors to the Gifford Art Gallery will see and be able to purchase those paintings.
