There was plenty to celebrate during Menig Nursing Home’s first barbeque of the summer. Not only was it the first event held at Menig’s brand new outdoor patio, it’s also the largest gathering for Menig residents and staff since before the pandemic.
“Everybody’s outside enjoying the sunshine after a really tough year,” Gifford Vice President of Senior Services, Ursula Margazano said.
All of Menig’s residents are vaccinated against COVID-19 and close to 97% of the staff are vaccinated as well, which opens the door for plenty more gatherings in the future.
“Everybody really worked hard to keep our residents safe and support each other through a long year,” Margazano said. “So, it’s really nice to do something they can enjoy.”
The outdoor patio has been an ongoing project for more than a year. After Menig earned a quality award for some of its services, a decision had to be made where to spend the money. The residents, their families and staff chose to expand the outdoor space next to the gazebo on campus.
“It’s wonderful that they can do this for us,” resident Mary “Mickey” Morehouse said. “It’s nice to have things going back to normal. It’s been a hard year and a half with no visitors allowed. So now, it’s good.”
“It’s very nice to get people outdoors to eat,” resident Joel Todd said. “It means that we’re a community and we’re growing, and people are enjoying it. It’s nice.”
