RANDOLPH, Vt.,— For the fourth time in eleven years, Menig Nursing Home is on U.S. News and World Report’s list of Best Nursing Homes in the country. The publication used several factors in making this determination illustrating Menig’s commitment to keeping its residents safe.
Menig is a 30-bed facility in Randolph Center under the nonprofit, corporate ownership of Gifford Health Care. It received an overall rating of 5 out of 5 and a long-term care rating of High Performing. U.S. News and World Report bases its ratings on data provided by the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Metrics include:
- Nurse staffing
- Best practices in preventive care and resident safety
- COVID-19 staff vaccination rates
- Minimizing the need for and use of hypnotic medications.
“We are honored to once again be recognized by U.S. News and World Report,” Gifford Vice President of Senior Services, Ursula Margazano said. “This is a culmination of hard work and effort by our dedicated staff, who have the interest of our residents as the top priority.”
Menig’s resident COVID vaccination rate is 100% and the nursing home was rated excellent for needing to readmit residents to the hospital during their nursing home stay. Almost 91% of Menig’s residents maintain the ability to move, eat, use the bathroom and do other common activities without help. That’s about 10% better than the Vermont average and about 7% more than the national average. Sustained ability to self-care given is indicative of quality care.
