Drawings and photographs by Williamstown artist Jan Rogers are currently on display in the Gifford Medical Center Art Gallery. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will run through October 28, 2015.
The twelve-piece exhibit features photographs and works in graphite, colored pencil, and pastel.
“Most of my work is done in the fine line drawing method using a soft touch, subtle elimination of lines, and attention to detail,” Rogers explains.
“To accomplish this I use various sizes of compressed paper pencils to apply graphite, pastel, and colored pencil to Bristol board, mat board, pastel, and watercolor and vellum paper. All values, tones and textures are constructed by blending with the paper pencils to create depth and shading.”
Rogers attended workshops on fine line drawing at the Ashton Art Institute in Connecticut, but is largely self-taught. Her paintings have been exhibited in galleries and shows in Connecticut, Arizona, California, and Vermont, where she is a member of the Paletteers art group. Her work is also currently on display at the White River Craft Center in Randolph.
One-of-a-kind note cards by the artist are also available at Gifford’s’ Garden Gate Gift Shop.
