Dr. Clifford Langweiler has accepted a full-time position at Gifford Medical Center after serving for a year as an interim Emergency Department physician. He had a private family practice in Brattleboro for 25 years before moving full time to Emergency Room work in 2008. Before coming to Gifford he was an Emergency Room physician at the Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont, NH.
Dr. Langweiler first became interested in Emergency Medicine when covering the Emergency Room during ‘On-Call’ nights to promote easier access hours for private patients to be seen for urgent problems after hours. He enjoyed the variety of medical problems dealt with in the Emergency Room, and appreciated the team effort needed to deliver quality care. With a Family Practice background, he brought a different perspective to delivery of Emergency Care
“I find the field of Emergency Medicine fascinating and I enjoy keeping up with advances in this specialty,” he said. “In addition to diagnosing and treating emergent problems, it’s important to help patients understand how the symptoms leading to an ER visit, along with appropriate testing, leads to a diagnosis, with urgent intervention if needed. The patient should be treated appropriately and educated about the medical problem, so that recurrences can be minimized”
Dr. Langweiller received a BS from Union College and an MD from the University of Virginia before completing a residency in Family Practice at Eastern Maine Medical Center. He and his wife of 35 years have three grown children and live in Brattleboro, Vt. with their two Shiba Inu dogs
