The Gifford Medical Center Auxiliary is turning Thrift Shop earnings into major support for the community’s local hospital.
Earlier this spring the Auxiliary funded more than $14,000 worth of “wish list” equipment requests spanning multiple departments at Gifford’s medical center and clinics, greatly benefiting patient care. Funded items include:
- Blood pressure cuffs and DVT Dobbler Probes for the Chelsea Health Center
- Tablets to support patients access to the patient portal (Electronic Medical Record)
- Utility cart, tables, and vacuums for the Environmental Services team
- Plasma Heating system for the Lab
- Updating blenders for Nutritional Services
- A wheelchair for same-day surgery
- Equipment for the Sharon Health Center Rehab team
Thanks to the generous grant provided by the Vermont Community Foundation, the wheelchair and blender were fully funded from the VT Community Foundation SPARKS grant.
The Auxiliary continues the long tradition of soliciting and awarding “wish list” items to Gifford, meaning departments submit their wishes in the form of funding requests for consideration. This year the decision-making on the Wish List was reviewed and decided on by a small group of dedicated Auxiliary volunteers.
Due to COVID restrictions, the volunteers could not share the good news of the funded wishes face to face, however, they made phone calls to the departments notifying them of their gift.
Gifford personnel are grateful for the continued support of the Auxiliary and the many volunteers who donate their time to benefit the community both with affordable clothing and housing items at the popular Gifford Thrift Shop.
