While trying to figure out a career direction in college, Susan Thievon had a meeting with a nurse practitioner. That encounter led Thievon on a path that now continues as a nurse practitioner in primary care at Gifford’s Bethel Health Center.
“I just had a positive experience through my education,” Thievon said. “That just kept me going.”
Thievon received her Bachelors and Masters from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Oklahoma City, OK.
However, after growing up in Oklahoma, Thievon had a desire to move to New England. About 20 years ago, Thievon and her husband did just that, settling down in New Hampshire. It’s in the granite state where Thievon discovered her deep passion for family care.
“I really love the variety of the family practice,” Thievon said. “In my years of experience, I’ve taken care of multi-generational families and it’s just a really neat experience to just have those connections with families.”
Thievon works with families on preventative care, finding out what’s important to them and their health.
“We can’t fix everything,” Thievon said, “But what I can do with that person or family to make them engaged in their healthcare is important.”
In her free time, Thievon enjoys gardening and loves cycling with her husband. The two are looking forward to exploring more of Vermont on bike, in every and all directions.
