RANDOLPH, Vt.—Nurse Practitioner Aleena Herrick has joined Gifford Health Care, serving on the Primary Care team at Gifford Health Center at Berlin.
Herrick’s philosophy of care is patient-oriented.
“It’s so important to listen to what patients have to say,” she said. “Just listening is a huge part of what I do.”
Herrick previously worked in hospice, an experience that reinforced for her the need to focus on the patient’s voice.
“I was there to bear witness, to make sure they had what they need and were comfortable,” she said. “A big part of hospice is just being with them. Really hearing them.”
Herrick, who followed in the footsteps of her grandmother, a nurse, in pursuing a career in health care, recently relocated to the Green Mountain State from Georgia. She was drawn to Gifford by its rural community and Vermont vibes.
Herrick previously worked as a registered nurse and nurse practitioner at Capstone Hospice, LLC, in Peachtree Corners, Ga.; as a nurse practitioner at Middle Georgia Surgical Institute in Warner Robins, Ga.; as a registered nurse at Bristol Hospice in Atlanta, Ga.; as a nurse practitioner at Piedmont Healthcare in Jasper, Ga.; and as a registered nurse at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, Ga. She earned a master’s degree in nursing from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Ga., and bachelor’s degrees in nursing and psychology from Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Ga.
In her downtime, Herrick enjoys spending time with family, including playing video and board games with her son.
