RANDOLPH, Vt.—Kumar Singh, MD, has joined Gifford Medical Center, serving with the hospitalist team on Howell Pavilion, Gifford’s inpatient unit.
Dr. Singh is involved with a patient’s care from the time they are admitted to the hospital to the time they are discharged, and relays information to the patient’s primary care provider. He is especially drawn to caring for critically ill, acute patients, and brings experience covering intensive care units. He also provides consultation to surgeons, Ob/Gyn providers, and others who may require consultation.
“I am dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care, focusing on evidence-based medicine and continually updating myself on current guidelines so I can be sure to provide the best care for my patients,” said Dr. Singh. “I actively involve patients and their families, and work toward keeping their hospitalization as short as possible. My approach is also focused on interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance quality and continuity of care.”
His commitment to caring for others was passed down from a previous generation.
“My grandfather, an internist, was my mentor,” he said. “Since childhood, I have always been interested in learning other people’s problems, their medical problems. This is my calling. I get great pleasure from taking care of people.”
Dr. Singh, who for 12 years worked in urban New York, was drawn to Gifford by its size, location, and administration.
“I want to be in a rural setting, at an independent Critical Access Hospital with less red tape and more time spent on patient care,” he said.
Dr. Singh is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He previously worked at MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; Olean General Hospital in Olean, N.Y.; and Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in the Bronx, N.Y, where he also completed his internal medicine residency. He earned his doctor of medicine degree and bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery from Ambedkar Medical College in Bangalore, India.
In his off time, Dr. Singh enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, reading and writing, and playing tennis.
