Heather Johnston, CNM, ARNP, has joined Gifford’s midwifery team, bringing twenty years’ experience in childbirth and wellness care for women of all ages. Born and raised in Utah, she started BirthWise Maternity Care in 1996, and continued her practice there until her recent relocation to Vermont.
A certified Professional Midwife since 2002, Johnston helped with her first home birth when she was 19 and has been caring for women ever since. She received a BS in Nursing from Weber State University, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Utah. As president of the Utah Midwives Association she was active in lobbying efforts to update Utah’s birth center regulations.
“Life changes happen when you welcome a new child into your family. It is my job to offer information, support, and sometimes-useful medical skills that help women navigate this journey their own way,” she said. “I like to take this same approach with all of women’s healthcare.”
Johnston’s clinical interests include women’s wellness care, normal and high-risk births, breastfeeding issues, eating disorders and body issues during pregnancy, and adjustment issues after birth. She is seeing patients in our Randolph and Berlin clinics. Call 728-2401 for an appointment—learn more about Gifford’s midwifery services at www.giffordhealthcare.org.
