RANDOLPH, Vt.—Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) Auben Van Meter has joined Gifford Health Care, serving on the Gynecology, Obstetrics, and Midwifery team at Gifford Medical Center.
Van Meter’s philosophy of care is centered on listening to an expectant mother’s wishes.
“I want to honor the woman and what she wants her pregnancy and delivery to be,” she said. “That includes providing education about her options, so she can make informed decisions, and really listening to and honoring her ideal labor and delivery within the scope of supporting a healthy outcome for her and her baby.”
Van Meter, who grew up in Guam, lives in Sharon and describes herself as a “full-time midwife and full-time mom.” She was drawn to Gifford by its Birthing Center’s standing in the community.
“Gifford’s reputation precedes it,” she said.
In addition to her role at Gifford, Van Meter works per diem as a CNM at Dartmouth Hitchcock in Lebanon, N.H., where she previously worked as staff for over 10 years. She is also an instructor of Obstetrics & Gynecology for Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine in Hanover, N.H. She earned a master’s degree in midwifery and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Columbia University in New York, N.Y., and a bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College in Wellesley, Mass. She is a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board.
In her downtime, Van Meter enjoys being a mom to her five children and two cats, swimming in all seasons, and practicing yoga.
