RANDOLPH, Vt.,— Watching her younger sister go through the process of pregnancy and childbirth, inspired Ellen Apple, CNM to pursue a career in Midwifery. She is excited to be continuing that career at Gifford, joining our renowned Birthing Center.
“I’m excited to work with a staff and birthing center with such great reputations,” Apple said.
Apple moved to Vermont from Florida in 2011 intending to become a midwife. Her mother is a doula and childbirth educator and her sister is a midwife. The three worked together at North Country Hospital’s Maternal Child Unit for nine years before Apple left to take a Midwife job at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, NY.
“Being a midwife is a pretty amazing opportunity to help people become empowered and understand their body in a way that we’re not really taught,” Apple said. “It’s really important in that process to be supported, empowered and listened to by your provider, because the day you give birth is one of the most important days of your life.”
On top of her duties as a Midwife, Apple will see women for well-women care which covers teens to postmenopausal. She is also a Vermont Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, interested in people with trauma histories and helping them feel differently about themselves and their bodies. She can be reached through our Birthing Center at (802) 728-2401.
