RANDOLPH, VT — Gifford Health Care is pleased to welcome R. Mariah North, MD, a part-time obstetrician-gynecologist, to its women’s health team, expanding access to comprehensive OB/GYN care for patients across the region.
Dr. North is an OB/GYN generalist with experience providing care in both outpatient and hospital settings, including obstetrics, gynecology, and surgical care. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of New Mexico and has practiced in a range of clinical environments, from large urban hospitals to small community-based health systems.
“What initially drew me to OB/GYN is the balance it offers — continuity of care alongside acute care, clinic, and hospital,” said Dr. North. “But what truly sustains me is listening to women, hearing their stories, and being inspired by my patients.”
Dr. North is particularly drawn to community health and rural care models and values working as part of interdisciplinary teams, including close collaboration with midwives. Her approach emphasizes evidence-based medicine while ensuring care aligns with each patient’s priorities and goals.
“I practice evidence-based, modern medicine, but I also try to understand what matters most to each patient,” Dr. North said. “Patients bring so much into the exam room. Taking the time to listen and meet them where they are is essential to good care.”
Gifford leaders note that Dr. North’s experience and values align closely with the organization’s mission to provide high-quality, community-centered care.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. North to Gifford,” said Meaghan McCormick, VP of Clinical Services. “Her commitment to community-based women’s health care and her thoughtful, patient-centered approach are an excellent fit for our organization and for the patients we serve.”
Dr. North has practiced in both large health systems and small community hospitals and has developed a strong appreciation for the role local hospitals play in caring for their communities.
“There is a real need for OB/GYN care across rural America,” Dr. North said. “Community hospitals are essential in meeting that need, and I value the personal connections and teamwork that come with practicing in a small hospital setting.”
Dr. North is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
