Through a dedicated staff and available resources, Gifford Health Care continues to use technology to reduce our carbon footprint, save money and energy. This was recently highlighted in a case study by Efficiency Vermont.
The study notes, Gifford was facing high operational costs using cooling and dehumidification units in its medical center. Large commercial buildings like hospitals use chillers to achieve proper temperature control. The Gifford facilities team joined Efficiency Vermont’s existing building commissioning program to implement improvements to control the chilled water system.
The study also notes, that while the team was on site evaluating the chilled water system, they discovered an extra opportunity to save on heating fuel. As a result, Gifford added insulation to the steam pipes in the mechanical room, saving 11,700 gallons of fuel oil.
“Ultimately this speaks to the culture that is Gifford, because none of these things would be possible without the support and vision of our employees, and management,” Gifford’s Director of Facilities, Patrick Giordano said.
Gifford Health Care’s efforts to save energy were recently highlighted in a meeting of the Vermont Healthcare Engineers Society (VHES).
