Gifford has received several reports from people in the Randolph area who have received calls from scammers claiming to be from Gifford Medical Center. All say that caller-ID shows an incoming call from Gifford, but the person on the line is selling medical devices, solar panels, or vacation packages.
“Gifford does contact patients by telephone in preparation for appointments and surgeries, and the hospital also makes calls to collect money,” said Gifford’s Director of Development & Public Relations Ashley Lincoln. “In each of these cases a staff member will start the conversation by clearly identifying themselves and the purpose of their call. If the call is for collection purposes, a credit card number is requested only if a patient volunteers to pay by credit card.”
Gifford has reported this activity and encourages anyone who receives similar calls to contact the Vermont Attorney General’s Office at 800-649-2424.
